InDepth Tattoos and Design – Regina, SK
My love for art began at a young age while watching my dad draw; he helped me to realize my passion for art, to the point where I was unable to put the pencil down. After many years of admiring the art of tattooing, I decided I wanted to try it for myself. I made many attempts to secure an apprenticeship, but with no luck in getting someone to take me under their wing, I decided to just teach myself. With the help of friends and family, as well as my hard work and determination, I finally landed a spot in a shop. Fast forward to today, I own and operate a studio called InDepth Tattoos and Design.
Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you have a mentor or favourite artist?
I’ve always looked to my family for inspiration and support with my artwork. My dad taught me how to draw and motivated me to pursue art as I got older. Favourite artist… that’s tough as there are so many names that come to mind: Bob Tyrell, Norm Gardner, Monty Ricken, and David Vega, to name a few.
Tips for other artists?
Whether you’re a new artist getting started, or you’ve been tattooing since the beginning of time, I would always suggest to anyone to research and reference ideas! Save any ideas you think would make an awesome tattoo and play around with it— don’t be scared to try new things. It might work for a future tattoo down the road. I am also a strong believer that tattooing is never a race, so spend the time to make that piece perfect, no matter how big or small it may be.
